Living on campus gets boring after a while - you see the same people all the time, watch sorority girls throw up in the same places, and see the same passed-out one-beer-queers getting crap written on their faces with a sharpie. So, what can you do to break the monotony? Only a road trip can make it all feel better like that magical snoopy band-aide that your parental unit of choice used to put on your boo-boo when you were a little kid.

Yes, the road trip has long been a college tradition, and regardless of length, its refreshing change of scenery, and tight association with slacking-off has re-energized the spirits of broken-down college students since the Dwight Ford opened his factory in 1704.

The first road trip was undertaken in 1704 by a group of Oxford students who wanted to have a "jolly good romp," whatever that means. Cecil Anderson and about 12 of his closest "chums" piled into their "horseless carriage" and drove north to Devon (or maybe it was south), where according to Cecil's journal, "ladies are of the friendlier persuasion." Once they reached Devon, they spent a few days of drunken debauch, before piling back into the vehicle -- thoroughly hung-over and once again ready to study.

Of course, Cecil was driving, and due to his high BAC (blood alcohol content) and penchant for speeding, all of these original adventurers were arrested on their way back to school when they were pulled over in a routine traffic stop. This caused them to miss their finals and be the first students to ever be expelled from college for having a BAC higher than their GPA.

Ever since that storied trip, college students have rallied behind the cry of "ROAD TRIIIP!" Many have also continued the tradition of incarceration as well -- most of those traditionalist also swear she was 18.
