Today was what we like to call a "nice" day. The sun was out and unchecked, and there was no rain to speak of. Exciting isn't it? Well, not if you live somewhere that happens to get that kind of weather regularly, but here is Pennsylvania, we don't.

What I don't understand though is why nice weather becomes an excuse for people to go outdoors to do things that can be easily done inside. Girls rush outside to read their textbooks in the "fresh air." If the air outside is so fresh, then why is the air coming into my room filtered?

Mankind spent centuries building and perfecting our living structures so that we wouldn't have to go outside. And we defame the memory of those early shelter-builders by worshipping the outdoors. "But its so nice out," you say... yeah it sure is, but that's no excuse. We built the dorm so that you could do your homework in the filtered-air, artificially lighted, air-conditioned convenience of the great indoors.

Talking about air-conditioned convenience, for the first time, my room is equipped with air-conditioning. With A/C comes the thermostat, and with a thermostat comes the timeless roommate conflict, how cold should it be. I want the room to be a fucking refrigerator, while my roommate prefers no cooling at all. Neither of us has said this to the other. More than not, this is all part of an attempt by us to avoid a fight. So, instead of agreeing on a standard temperature setting, we compete. Whenever my roommate isn't looking, I max out the A/C, and while I am not in the room, he turns it back off.

Roommate politics is a sketchy subject, because the first roommate to crack has to move to another room. So you can either get along, or move. Oftentimes it is inevitable that one roommate will piss the other off. I do not intend to be the one that moves. I do not intend to compromise on the thermostat. I am willing to keep this game going for as long as it takes.

Did I mention that I can get pretty competitive?
