The other day my building in the city was hosting a children's chess tournament to encourage school kids to play chess. Somehow I think having the rook shoved up you ass in the locker room and not a lack of "awareness" is the culprit for the lack of young chess players these days, but who am I to ponder that, I guess.

Anyway, so for most of the day these kids who seemed to range from 6th grade to high school were playing chess and taking up half of the lobby doing it. My internship consisted of a series of messenger tasks with 5 or 10 minute interludes of learnin' snuck in between, so I passed these kids a good few times in my coming and going.

Of course, I have a hard time not causing any sort of trouble in a situation like that. So, every time I walked by, I would shout out (without specifying a recipient for the shouting) what I believed to be chess moves. "Knight to queen's rook five!" and the like. Each time eliciting a puzzled look from all of the kids.

I hope I sabotaged someone's chess-championship dreams. That'll teach those nerds to play chess in school.
