In the last couple weeks you've all either a) Graduated, b) began summer "vacation," or c) continued to relive your youth vicariously through this site. No matter which of these you've picked there is a certain reality that you have to face: WORK.

Work is another way to say "responsibility," it's also a way to say "tired," and in swahili it translates to "place of the burning fire and urine." None of these definitions should be very appealing, but then again, neither is being broke and/or homeless (unless you manage to get yourself one of those good boxes that doesn't leak during a heavy rainstorm, you know, the ones that are real thick -- also, if you get one over a steam vent. For the majority of us, though, it isn't an option, so we're forced to sell ourselves into indentured servitude to the employer of our choice.

Here are the facts about working:

1) You will never get paid as much as you think your time is worth.
2) There are fewer "opportunities for advancement" than they lead you to believe. There can be only ONE head fry chef, and Jerome ain't graduating to cheese-melting anytime soon.
3) Taxes will make you sad. Really sad.
4) If your job description includes the term "customer service," you will contemplate suicide.

Remember that it just isn't worth the mess you will create if you finally do yourself in. When you find yourself trying desperately to invent a new ailment to call in sick with every morning, it might just be time to quit your job and move on. When you're on you're third case of Jaegeritis, they might be on to you anyway.
