I Want To Play Dodgeball

I was just reminiscing back to elementary school. Remember the days when you would show up for phys. ed. and your obese waste of life teacher (who ironically, was paid to teach you how to stay in shape) would be too bloated on his or her midday Hostess cupcake binge to deal with overseeing any sort of semi-educational activity, would provide the class with a set of over-inflated rubber balls with the instructions, "you either gotta catch it, or get outta the way."

Yeah, dodgeball was great. Its a sport with few rules. There aren't the same complexities as other games/sports. The rules are simple: You throw a rubber ball as hard as possible, at a young child with the intent of causing some sort of pain (or an injury if you were lucky -- if you drew blood, you were immediately an All-Star). Meanwhile, if the ball was coming toward you, you had two options, for the clumsy fucks like myself, you "dodged" the ball -- a move that earned few kudos but none-the-less would serve to prevent thousands of nosebleeds. For those athletes among us, however, there was the option of catching the ball, allowing you the enjoyment of then throwing it back at the maladjusted youth who had originally intended to give you a concussion with it.

All in all a good game, you must agree.

What brought this on? I was watching one of those History Channel barbarian-killing-spree marathons. Definitely the best thing on TV after Conan. Where else can you watch 10 straight hours of simulated carnage on a Monday night? CBS? Maybe, but only if it is Jerry Falwell and an army of old Irish angels that can't act doing the killing.

You know, I think I'm going to call up CBS... That one sounds like a winner.
