Prof. Miles,

In an age old college tradition that I believe in and whole-heartedly hope to continue, I would like to request an extension on the paper that is due this wednesday (feb. 12). As per the stipulations of said tradition, I will now provide you with an explanation regarding why I am requesting this extension. It seems that Wednesday is one of those days that every professor picks as the due date for some assignment. In addition too your paper I also must complete a paper for Prof. Gabova's Intro to Philosophy (15% of my grade in that class), as well as preparing for a Calculus 2 examination, and preparing a lab report for chemistry. In addition to this, I also have a Chemistry exam on thursday which will require much studying.

Although it would certainly be possible for me to complete your paper on time, I don't feel that I could provide the level of quality that would best showcase my abilities.

Brian,
I am familiar with this "age old college tradition." The problem,
however, with all traditions is how they are given to change and varying
interpretations. That said, you will recall that my expectations are
that you will always have at least a draft to present since you started
on your paper long before now (that is why I pace the course the way
that I do; it allows plenty of time for reading ahead and getting to
work on the next assignment). As well, you can see on the syllabus that
I have a formula for late work (see material under the heading entitled
"Papers").
I can appreciate the work load that you have. Villanova, in fact,
prides itself on pushing its students. That is one of the things that
makes the diploma worth having. Trial by fire is what separates the the
dross from the gold.

Prof. Gabova,

I know it is a long shot, but would it be possible to get an extension on the term paper? All I need is one extra day. I have another paper due for my Core Humanities class, which I have to give a presentation for on wednesday, and my research for that project has been taking far more time than I had anticipated.
