Who is that Mysterious Woman?

Lennon's painful secret is finally revealed

Summer time and the livin's easy. If you can't tell, that is the opening line to a Sublime song -- it reminds me of the summer of 2001, when I spent the month of June in Lexington, Virginia, attending a summer program for over-achieving high school students (I was the lazy asshole who brought the intellectual level back to normal. Within the period of that month, so much happened, and in the two years that have followed, I have lost touch with most of the friends I made there. That is, however, the nature of things -- "out of sight, out of mind," or so the cliche goes.

Never again will I see the Uno-addicted, pothead midget who took all of my (and the rest of the guys in my hall's) laundry money in quarter poker (Rollie will remember that one). Rollie was actually the hero that night though, he was the one that invited her and her friend to play. Her friend was so close to being hot, it was a shame that she couldn't maintain her excellence from the shoulders up. Regardless, this is where I learned the ultimate law of meeting chicks, get this guys its a doozy -- you have to talk to them, and perhaps invite them to hustle you out of your stash of quarters.

I haven't heard from Camille in months. The last time I saw her, she was being pelted with water balloons in the middle of a hallway at Washington and Lee. Good Times.

Her friend Debrissa, spent about half of that month being pissed at me for one of my trademark off-color remarks. She spent the other half apologizing for mentioning my mother -- long story. I still hear from her every so often, but conversations are brief, and mostly superficial.

Craig, the Red Hot Chili Peppers fanatic and excellent bass player from Tennessee is one of those guys who keeps in touch with everybody he has ever met. He accomplishes this by forwarding many many email forwards to a mailing list of people. You know the kind, "friend surveys" (what's your favorite color/beer/sexual position), or political/religious statements. Anything more than these superficial communiques is always extraordinary.

Then there is Rollie. Rollie goes to the same college as me -- even so, I have not seen him since 2001. I have spoken to him since on AIM more than the others, but there is still a schism that has formed.

The point of all of this is to have a hell of a lot of fun with your friends. Someday, you may lose touch with your college buddies. Its almost a certainty. Live for the present, drink lots of beer/scotch/vodka, and wake up with a hangover and a smile.

In order to make up for that nonsense - click here - to read something from P.J. O'Rourke. Hilarious.
